Due to continuous shortage of domestic onion supply, traders who have not secured consistent and reliable sources are now encountering difficulties in onion imports, and this situation is expected to worsen due to logistics challenges. Several traders are looking to source from major European countries, however quality issues exist due to long transit time. Another option is Washington, United States, where cargoes are forced to transfer to California due to unavailability of containers and vessel spaces. These result in much higher import cost, and domestic products seem to be competitive over imported products at the moment.
