Mexico is one of the largest mango producers and exporters in the world. In 2022 Mexico produced around 2.4M mt of mangoes, with the states of Sinaloa, Nayarit, and Chiapas being the major producing regions. Mexico shipped around 410K mt of mangoes in 2022, with the United States being the largest market, accounting for 78% of Mexico's total mango exports. Other important export destinations include Canada, Japan, and the European Union.
It's worth noting that the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the mango market, as it disrupted supply chains and reduced demand from some markets. However, the sector has recovered, with positive expectations for the 2023 mango season. There are many potential new markets for Mexican mangoes. By focusing on quality and working with importers and distributors, Mexican mango growers can increase their exports and reach new customers.
