There are currently only four steaming houses for mangoes in Taiwan. Mangoes need to be steamed before export to Japan and South Korea. The daily capacity for one of the busiest steaming houses in Tainan city is around 30 tons per daily for a 16-hour shift. The steaming house is partially owned by the government to help local agricultural businesses for export. There will be one more steaming house in business as early as season 2022 located in Pingtung city, which is the earliest mango producing region in Taiwan. Exporters are excited to have a new steaming house as the demands from Japan and South Korea are growing. They were not able to take on new buyers in the past season due to the limited capacity of the exiting steaming houses.
