Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand canned tuna, along other canned goods, is experiencing high demand globally. However, the suppliers are having a difficult time meeting that demand due to the shortage of containers, increasing freight, appreciation of Thai Baht, and the excursion of trade partners. The shortage of containers mainly caused by the containers that stuck in the USA and EU during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even there are some returned containers, most containers are rerouted to China. It is reported that there are thousands of canned tuna containers waiting to be discharged from Thai port.
