The Malaysian Department of Agriculture has officially communicated phytosanitary requirements and designated production areas for Peruvian Hass avocados to SENASA, enabling their immediate entry into Malaysia. This follows a decade of collaboration between various Peruvian ministries and producers. Avocado imports into Malaysia have surged by 98% in the last five years, reaching USD 15 million in 2022. Peru, the second largest exporter of avocados globally, has steadily increased its exports, with a 9% rise reported between January and September 2023. The Netherlands leads as the primary destination for Peruvian avocados, accounting for 30% of total shipments.
