The impact of a tug-of-war between Ukraine and Russia was seen on the pulses market. Last week in Saskatchewan, Red Lentils prices increased by 2%, field peas by 4%, and Chickpeas Kabuli 9mm by 3% compared to the week earlier. The war between Russia and Ukraine creates uncertainty in chickpea markets because of sanctions imposed on Russia by most European and NATO member states. As per an update from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, in January, the country imported 46,763 MT of pulses, which is 8.12% higher than December last year. However, it is down by 35% as compared to January 2021. According to the Australia Bureau of Statistics, exports of Chickpeas during January totaled 82,359 MT, up 12% from 73,520 MT the previous month last year.
