Egypt's Red Onion Prices Surged 40% in Dec-24 Due to Supply Shortage

In Dec-24, red onion prices in Egypt rose by approximately 40%, reaching USD 334.19/mt (EGP 17,000/mt) compared to USD 235.90/mt (EGP 12,000/mt) in Oct-24. This price increase is primarily due to the market's low availability of red onions and high demand, particularly during the holiday season. The supply shortage has put upward pressure on prices as traders and consumers compete for the limited stock available.
