Barley harvest in Russia is forecasted to finish at around 18.5 million tons which represents a drop by 7% compared to the previous harvest season. 2019/20 harvest was almost 20 million tons.
After the EU has imposed trade sanctions on Russia, the country has geared up the domestic poultry production since EU chicken exports to Russia were on a significant level before the sanctions.
The increase in domestic poultry production has caused an increase in domestic barley consumption as poultry feed. Therefore, the barley export offering is expected to decrease which might also affect global prices as well.
