Facing the effects of the coronavirus crisis, Russia has been struggling to contain food inflation for the population, which has registered a drop in family income. Moscow has already imposed grain restrictions and adopted some other measures. Now, it is being considered to reduce or cut taxes for the import of poultry and eggs. This is because Russia is also registering an increase in demand for protein and a drop in chicken meat production since the Avian Flu has also affected the country. The Russian quota for poultry imports for this year is set at 364,000 tonnes with zero tax. Above that, the tax is 65%. The possibility of reducing the tax for importing chickens from Brazil is being considered but has not yet been made official by the authorities.
