During the first week of the Ukraine conflict, soft wheat prices increased by 13%, and corn prices skyrocketed by 29% from EUR 240 to EUR 320 per MT.

Countries like Italy, which highly depends on the import of wheat from Russia and Ukraine, which meets domestic demand for bread and pasta, are expected to experience a shortage in supply as commodity storage dwindles to 22%.

Prices for durum wheat and related products such as pasta will remain stable in the short run. However, the conflict is causing unprecedented uncertainties in the global food supply chain with potential bottlenecks in durum wheat prices.
