Tanzania's tea auctions are expected to start early in 2023 to boost farmer income and increase the product value. The reason is that farmers often do not profit from growing the crop; in fact, some farmers throw tea away because they are unable to sell it, and those who do sell it must wait up to five months for payment. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Tanzania's tea production trend shows that yields decreased from 32,629 MT in 2016 to 26,975 MT in 2017. However, the crop yields increased gradually to 34,010MT and 37,193MT in 2018 and 2019, respectively, before falling by 22.8% percent to 28,715MT in 2020.
