The Indonesian palm oil association is currently lobbying the European Union countries to encourage them to keep importing crude palm oil and palm kernel oil, following the negative ethical business report towards the Indonesian palm oil industry. The recent allegation about worker exploitation by some palm oil plantation operators has put Indonesia under the spotlight and has caused an embargo option by some European countries such as France and Italy. With this embargo in mind, it is feared that this situation will lower the national export to Europe by at least 21% in the first half of 2021. Thus, a goodwill campaign must be done even from now, in order to prevent negative stigma towards the Indonesian palm oil industry and to keep the continuation of export to Europe. Even though the export of crude palm oil and palm kernel oil to Europe is rather small in comparison to other regions, exporting the aforementioned commodities to Europe is still needed to ensure the fulfillment of the yearly export growth target by the national industry.
