The local farmers in Semarang regency in Central Java have begun producing strawberries using the hydroponic method. The hydroponic method was chosen by the farmers in this province as the availability of plantation lands that can be entirely dedicated to this commodity can be considered scarce in comparison to other fruits such as melon and avocado, and this method allows them to maximize even the smallest size of land and the fact that strawberries can thrive with the hydroponic method, considering that this plant does not need the abundance of sunlight to grow optimally. With this production method, the local government expected that the production output from this regency can be improved by as high as 30% by early 2021, in order to minimize the dependence on imported strawberries, to accommodate the demand from the regional market that has now reached 4 MT/month.
