Irrigation infrastructure in Tanzania has increased over the past five years from 461,000 hectares in 2015 to 694,715 hectares in 2020 with the goal of efficient and sustainable production for national economic development through domestic and foreign trade. The infrastructure has increased the production of rice, maize, onions, and tomatoes significantly. However, the government has planned for the next five years (2020-2025) to increase the area of irrigation to 1,000,000 hectares.
