The final report of the Observatory of Prices and Markets of the Junta de Andalucía reveals a volatile price trend for most horticultural products in Almeria during the 2020/21 season, with significant fluctuations affecting both producers and marketers. The protected horticultural season saw initial improvement but prices plummeted in November due to increased production and extended European campaigns. A storm in January caused a surge in prices to campaign highs, only to fall again in November and December from high production. Spring brought challenges for zucchini, watermelon, and cantaloupe growers due to supply-demand mismatches, while pepper and tomato growers experienced better market conditions. Watermelon and melon campaigns were marred by significant price drops due to overproduction and market saturation. The area under melon cultivation increased by 12% compared to the previous season, leading to market saturation and price drops. Tomato prices fluctuated frequently throughout the season.
