In October, Ukraine imported a record 4.2 thousand tons of cheese, which is half of its average monthly sales, with the majority coming from Poland, Germany, and the Netherlands. Despite the increased cost of imported Gouda and Emmental cheeses, the price difference compared to Ukrainian cheese is negligible. Domestic cheesemakers are responding by raising prices and reducing promotional sales, leading to a decrease in their sales in favor of imported cheese. Meanwhile, Ukrainian cheese is exported to Kazakhstan and Moldova. Additionally, the cost of milk in Ukraine has increased by 16% over the last five months, reaching prices significantly higher than the EU average.
