Anchovy fishermen in South Korea are getting frustrated

The anchovy fishing industry is fluctuating as the amount of anchovy catches plummeted and the price of production has fallen. The steamer gwonhyeon net industry, the largest producer of dried anchovy in Korea, is even reducing the number of working days due to poor management. According to the Fisheries Observation Center of the Korea Maritime and Fisheries Development Institute (KMI), the production of dried anchovy recorded 30,2006 tons last year, down 25% and 23% compared to the previous year and the average year, respectively, as catches decreased from September. In particular, the production of dried anchovies in the steamer wire netting industry last year was about 14,000 tons (about 65.1 billion won), recording the lowest level in recent 10 years.
