Ban on stunting with the price of beer caused serious hoarding behavior in the Netherlands

In the weeks prior to the entry into force of the Alcohol Act, in which stunting with the prices of alcohol is prohibited, considerably more beer, wine and spirits have been hoarded. Significantly more beer has been bought, especially in the east of the country, according to figures from research agency IRI that NU.nl has requested. Since 1 July, no more than 25 percent discount can be given on beer, wine or spirits. This is a result of the new Alcohol Act that has replaced the Licensing and Catering Act. In that law, the rules for the online sale of drinks have also become stricter.
