Between January and April of 2023, Ukraine saw a decrease in aquatic biological resource catches, with over 777 tons compared to last year's 990 tons, due to blocked seas and the Kakhovsky Reservoir. The catch included nearly 450 tons of silver crucian carp and over 77 tons of Black Sea herring. This is the first year that industrial fishing in Ukraine is being conducted through auctions, with commercial fishermen paying three times more than last year, totaling UAH 31.7 million. The country has also updated the rules for commercial fishing in inland water bodies and has a ban on spawning in most reservoirs.
