Between January and April 2023, Ukraine saw a decline in aquatic biological resource catch compared to the previous year, with a total of 777 tons compared to 990 tons in 2022. This decrease is linked to the impact of Russia's military aggression, leading to the closure of Ukrainian seas. The catch included 449 tons of silver crucian carp and 77 tons of Black Sea herring from internal reservoirs, with significant catches in the Dnipro reservoirs and the Danube River. This year marked the first time that industrial catch was based on auctions through the "PROZORRO.PRODAZHI" trading system, resulting in three times more payment compared to last year. A total of UAH 31.7 million was paid by industrial fishermen. The auction procedure is part of industry reforms aimed at reducing corruption, with more changes on the horizon.
