In the 2019-2020 financial year, Spain saw a significant increase in the marketing and consumption of seafood products bearing the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) eco-label, with 380 such products sold and a total of 16,000 tons consumed. These products represented 72,222 tons of fish and were sourced from 394 vessels. The number of companies possessing the MSC chain of custody standard also rose by 30%, with 273 companies now adhering to it. The MSC reports that consumption of eco-labeled seafood continues to grow, with the purse seine tuna and Galician mussel sectors showing a particular interest. In February 2021, 50 entities, including distribution companies and the fishing fleet, announced their participation in the 'Seas Forever' campaign, set to take place from February 22 to 28, 2021. This initiative aims to promote the consumption of sustainably sourced seafood through various events and activities for consumers and educational institutions.
