The number of calf registrations to dairy dams in the UK saw a marginal increase in the fourth quarter of 2022, reaching 355,621 head, which is slightly up by 0.6% from the previous year and 0.9% above the five-year average. This finding indicates that despite the challenging economic environment, farmers were able to maintain herd sizes. The total births to dairy dams in 2022 were just 0.1% up from 2021 but 2.7% higher than the five-year average, marketing themselves as the highest number of registered births in over a decade.
