Innovate UK has initiated a four-year, £5.9m project titled 'Nitrogen Efficient Plants for Climate Smart Arable Cropping Systems' (NCS) to assist UK farmers in reducing emissions. The project aims to increase pulse cropping to 20% and replace up to half of imported soya meal with home-grown pulses and legumes. It will support 200 farms in establishing carbon baselines and tracking emissions, with leading farmers receiving funding for crop and feeding trials. The project will also launch the PulsePEP hub for sharing best practices and will be officially launched at the Cereals Event in June. Farmers interested in the project can sign up on the PulsePEP website.
