Kazakhstan introduced a 20% export duty on sunflower seeds, with a minimum of EUR 100 per ton, in early 2023 to support local oil extraction companies. This measure has significantly boosted the country's oil production by 62% and led to an 8% decrease in domestic prices. Furthermore, Kazakhstan's sunflower oil exports surged by 1.7 times in 2022, reaching 229.4 thsd tonnes, compared to 2021. The country produced 81% more sunflower oil in the September-April period of the 2022/23 marketing year, totaling 291 thsd tonnes.
