In the first half of 2021, fruit and vegetable consumption in Italian households has recovered to pre-Covid levels, but there has been a general decline compared to the same period in 2020, with a 5% contraction year-on-year. The Cso Italy Market Observatory report shows that the purchase of 2.9 million tons of fresh fruit and vegetables from January to June was consistent with the average of 2017-2019. The report also indicates a shift towards organic produce, with a 1% increase compared to 2020. However, there was a decrease in the purchase of both fruit and vegetables compared to 2020 across all Italian regions. Large-scale retail sales of fruit and vegetables have also seen a 2% decrease from the beginning of the year to June.
