In 2022, Kazakhstan experienced a significant shift in its cattle trade dynamics. The country imported small cattle, predominantly from Russia, which saw an increase of almost eight times compared to the previous year. This surge contributed to a decrease in the export of cattle from Kazakhstan, with Uzbekistan being the main destination, seeing a 55-fold drop in supplies. Despite the reduction in exports, the financial impact was less severe, with a 37.8-time decrease in revenue. On the other hand, Russia's cattle exports to Kazakhstan fell by over three times, while the Czech Republic saw a fivefold increase. Kazakhstan's cattle herd grew to 8.5 million heads by the end of 2022, an increase of 1.1 million heads over three years, and the small cattle population reached 21.9 million heads, up by 2.8 million heads from 2019.
