The domestic health functional food market in South Korea is growing at a rapid pace, surpassing 6 trillion won in 2022, and there is potential for further growth in the global market. However, the industry faces challenges due to the reliance on imported raw materials, with over 30% of products being imported. The Korea Food Industry Cluster Promotion Agency (KFDA) is promoting the discovery and commercialization of domestic functional agri-food resources to ensure a stable supply of raw materials and support the growth of the agricultural sector. Through technical support for companies and initiatives for efficient registration of functional ingredients, the KFDA is leading the functional food market with domestic functional ingredients, including the recent recognition of black raspberry extract as a blood pressure control ingredient in food.
