Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Busan City in South Korea hold a groundbreaking ceremony for smart aquaculture cluster test bed

The first large-scale commercial Atlantic salmon production in Korea begins in Busan. Domestic production of Atlantic salmon is on the rise as the new government adopts the smart farming cluster creation project that combines digital technology in Gijang-gun, Busan, as a national task to produce salmon, which is dependent on existing imports, on its own. Most of the salmon consumed in Korea depends on imports, and the consumption of salmon is also on the rise. As salmon imports increased from about 40,000 tons in 2020 to about 60,000 tons last year, expectations are high for domestic salmon production.
