The Italian government has officially opposed Slovenian technical legislation on vinegar marketing, objecting to the use of 'aceto balsamico' for generic products. The standstill period for this issue has been extended to 3 June, during which Member States will consider Italy's concerns. The Consortium for the Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI has expressed satisfaction with the government's stance and is prepared to support the national and world interests of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) products in the upcoming community debate.
