The conflict in Ukraine and resulting sanctions on Russia and Belarus are impacting the food supply chain, leading to issues with the availability of certain ingredients and raw materials. Authorities such as the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, Food Standards Scotland, and the Food Standards Agency are providing guidance to businesses on handling these challenges, including the quick switching of ingredients and the need for compliance with EU food labeling rules. The situation has led to the substitution of ingredients like sunflower oil with alternatives, and some countries have temporarily increased Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) for imports to address sourcing issues. These measures, aimed at ensuring food safety and availability, are expected to be in place until September 2022.
