Jeonbuk-do in South Korea is going to launch a new project to test and develop a new breed of seaweed for aquaculture. The project will be led by the Jeonbuk Provincial Fisheries Technology Research Institute, which has been selected for a new research and training fishery project by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The institute will focus on testing new seaweed varieties on the West Coast and selecting superior ones to replace the current variety, which is prone to yellowing and sea blight due to environmental changes and disease outbreaks. The institute will also explore securing genetic resources and developing unique varieties through breeding research.
