New variety of seaweed farming test, spurring the development of superior varieties in South Korea

Jeonbuk-do recently announced that it will promote a new breed of seaweed aquaculture test and development of superior varieties from next year. On September 8, Jeonbuk Provincial Fisheries Technology Research Institute was selected as a new research and training fishery project by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and it will proceed with the research task of 'testing new varieties of seaweed in the West Coast and selecting superior varieties'. Seaweed farming is conducted in Gunsan, Gochang, and Buan. As of 2021, it is an important aquaculture breed that produces 35,132 tons, or 63.7% of the 55,143 tons of marine aquaculture production in Jeonbuk-do, and earns about 22.4 billion won.
