The National Office for the Health Safety of Food Products in Morocco has refuted claims of a video circulating on social media alleging the import of rotten bananas from Somalia containing stomach-poisoning worms. The office stated that the video was likely fabricated and stressed that Morocco does not import bananas from Somalia, but rather from the Canary Islands and Latin American countries like Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Colombia. The office also confirmed that all imported vegetables and fruits, including bananas, are subject to border control and must have a phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin, ensuring they are disease and pest-free.
