Pasta consumption hit record highs in 2020, both in Italy and internationally, with sales and exports reaching new heights despite the COVID-19 pandemic. There was a notable 16% increase in pasta consumption abroad, with exports exceeding 3.1 billion. The United States emerged as the largest consumer, showing a 40% increase, followed by France, Germany, and the UK with significant growth. Imports also surged in Australia, Japan, and China. In Italy, pasta consumption increased by 10% compared to 2019, driven by consumers' growing preference for pasta made from only Italian wheat, which saw a 29% rise in consumption.
