In 2023, Peru ranked 10th globally and 3rd in Latin America and the Caribbean as a supplier of exotic fruits, with passion fruit being the most popular. Exports of these fruits increased by 11% from 2022, reaching US$ 66 million 932 thousand. However, there has been a worrying decrease in passion fruit production due to climatic phenomena, new pests, and diseases. To address these issues, Peru is working on an action plan in collaboration with the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation of Peru (INIA) and has invested over 6.3 million soles in developing passion fruit experiments. The country also has potential opportunities in the cosmetics industry and is working on a new commercial variety of passion fruit.
