Pork registered a significant increase in competitiveness against beef in March 2026, reaching the best level of the last four years. The movement was driven by the drop in pork prices and the appreciation of beef protein in the period, according to data from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea). In the wholesale market of Greater São Paulo, the special pork carcass was traded, on average, at R$ 10.06 per kilo in March, representing a 2.8% drop compared to February. The contraction is associated with lower liquidity in the market, both for live animals and for meat. This behavior is typical of the Lenten period, when there is a reduction in the consumption of proteins such as pork, directly impacting the pace of negotiations.
