Salt farmers in Jepara, Indonesia are facing reduced income due to the selling price of salt falling to IDR 1,000 per kilogram, significantly below the normal range of IDR 1,200 to IDR 1,300 per kilogram. This decline is attributed to the abundant salt stocks in storage warehouses, despite being in the dry season which should initiate salt production. The issue was first observed in early May 2024, and farmers are hoping for a return to stable market prices ahead of the upcoming salt production season in August, to ensure satisfactory results.
