The State Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (Sape) has launched a new phase of the Terra Boa 2025/2026 Program, with the introduction of the Incentive Project for the Cultivation of Grain Sorghum for Feed Production. The initiative aims to increase grain production in Santa Catarina and reduce the deficit in feed manufacturing for pork, poultry, and dairy production chains. The measure was approved by the State Council for Rural Development (Cederural) and is already in effect. According to Sape, the project seeks to "strengthen the productive autonomy of the state" and offer producers a viable alternative to corn. Grain sorghum, a variety cultivated for producing grains used in animal feed, can be planted during the off-season in areas previously used for crops such as onions and tobacco.
