South Korea is experiencing an outbreak of avian influenza (AI) in its central region, caused by the H5N1 virus, which is spreading faster than previous years. The outbreak started in a duck farm in North Gyeongsang Province and has since spread to several other farms in Chungbuk, Chungnam, and Jeonbuk. The virus is of concern as migratory birds, which have increased in number this year, could spread it further to other regions. Measures such as large-scale disinfection, trail closures, and special management of affected farms are being implemented to control the spread. Farmers are also being encouraged to release chickens and ducks early to prevent further infection.
