The Valencian Association of Farmers (AVA-ASAJA) has reported that the European Union (EU) detected the false moth quarantine pest in citrus fruits from South Africa destined for the European market. The president of AVA-ASAJA, Cristóbal Aguado, criticized the insufficient measures established by the EU and called for stricter cold treatment for South African citrus. South Africa has led the world in interceptions of pests and diseases in citrus shipments and their non-compliance with phytosanitary requirements puts European agricultural production at risk.
