From January-May 2022, Kazakhstan experienced a significant increase in sunflower oil production, with a total of 197.3 thousand tons, which is 29.6% more than the previous year. Unrefined sunflower oil saw a dramatic increase of 61.3% in the same period, primarily produced in the East Kazakhstan region. However, refined sunflower oil production decreased by 6.9%. Due to the substantial increase in production and high demand, the Ministry of Agriculture has implemented export restrictions until August 31, 2022, to stabilize prices and prevent a shortage. Despite these measures, sunflower oil prices in Kazakhstan have been on a steady rise for 27 months straight, with notable price hikes in various regions.
