Sunflower oil in Belarus: Perspectives are assessed by an expert

Sunflower is a very demanding agricultural crop, and next year the republic will begin an experiment on its cultivation in Alexandria. In 2022, 6,710 hectares were sown with sunflowers in the country, said Dmitry Luzhinsky, Deputy General Director for Research at the Research and Production Center for Agriculture. According to him, attempts to grow sunflower have already been made in Belarus. Approximately 10 years ago, about 20 thousand hectares were sown in the Gomel region, but the experiment did not work out. The fact is that sunflower ripens late. In September and October it is already cold and rainy in Belarus. This leads to difficulties in harvesting and drying the crop. As a result, the plant gains little oil and its quality is low.
