Hungary has seen a notable increase in the use of breeding bulls by beef cattle keepers, with a record number of freshly qualified bulls bred in 2020 despite market disruptions from the coronavirus. The agricultural support regulation introduced in 2019 has been effective in improving the quality of the fattening cattle stock and has been well-received by farmers. However, to further enhance production efficiency and genetic standards, the regulation is being amended to limit support to first-time fathers, rather than previously used breeding bulls. The changes are being developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and various agricultural organizations.
