The Spanish Beef Interprofessional Organization (Provacuno) recently held a meeting with Portuguese export companies and importers to bolster trade relations between Spain and Portugal. The meeting highlighted shared values such as gastronomy, quality food, and support for the European Production Model, which emphasizes traceability, food safety, animal welfare, and environmental sustainability. Spain is the leading beef exporter to Portugal, which has a demand shortfall and depends heavily on imports. The meeting was part of the 'Become a Cowboy- Proud of EU Beef' campaign and included a cooking show featuring beef from Europe. The beef sector is modernizing and aligning with EU goals like the European Green Deal and is focused on animal welfare and sustainability, with efforts towards climate neutrality by 2050.
