The gap between what the consumer pays and what the producer receives continues to grow in lamb and goat meat.

Union of Unions of Farmers and Livestock Farmers, in view of this Christmas, wants to make an appeal to families to check the origin of the foods they are going to consume when making their purchases. The organization points out that while consumer prices rise during these dates, this is not happening at the same rate for the producer. This is a situation that, according to the Union, "has been going on for many years and has become a structural problem of the poor functioning of the food chain law" which has been insisted on "on many occasions". Among the products that have risen the most in the last year are lamb and goat. Union of Unions warns that during the last quarter, the consumer price index is above the price indices perceived by livestock farmers. In fact, the price index perceived by livestock farmers, according to Eurostat data, has decreased by 8% since January, while consumer price indices for sheep and goat meat have grown by 2.5%, increasing the difference. ...
