The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Lenteja de Tierra de Campos in Spain is aiming to increase its production of Pardina lentils to 1.5 million kilos and expand the protected area to 10,000 hectares in the next few years, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and variable weather conditions. The lentils are known for their quality, nutritional value, and sustainable cultivation without nitrates. A promotional campaign has been launched to raise awareness of these lentils, which are currently marketed without highlighting the PGI status. The 2020 harvest has seen a significant increase from the previous year, reaching 6.5 million kilos, with 750,000 kilos expected to bear the PGI label. The future dedication of the area to Pardina lentils for the 2021 campaign will depend on the farmers' schedules and rainfall conditions.
