The prospect of anchovy fishing this year in South Korea is bright

The National Institute of Fisheries Science recently announced that the production of anchovy roe and eel (freshly hatched fish) in the southern coast of this year has significantly increased compared to the previous year. According to the Namhae Fisheries Research Institute, the distribution densities of anchovy roe and larvae in the southern coast (Wando, Jeollanam-do~Busan) in April were 1.6 times and 1.9 times higher, respectively, compared to the previous year. The density of anchovy roe increased by 63.6% from 44 specimens/10㎥ last year to 72 specimens/10㎥ this year. The larvae density increased by 88.9% from 9 specimens/10㎥ last year to 17 specimens/10㎥ this year. The distribution area was also concentrated in the eastern part of the South Sea last year, but this year, as the inflow of warm water accelerated, anchovy eggs and larvae were evenly distributed throughout the South Sea, indicating that the spawning area was greatly expanded.
