South Korea is experiencing a surge in prices for duck meat and eggs due to an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) in poultry farms. Since the first case was reported on October 19, 40 cases have been confirmed across the country, impacting various types of livestock. As a result, the wholesale price of duck meat has increased by 19.8% from September, and egg prices have risen by 9.2% from November. The government is implementing measures to disinfect farms and prevent the spread of AI, and is monitoring the situation to stabilize prices. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is also considering importing fresh eggs to control consumer prices, which currently stand at 6,727 won for a special plate.
