Uzbekistan is experiencing record high tomato prices, with wholesale prices being 61% higher than in neighboring Tajikistan and 1.5 times higher than in Georgia and Moldova. Over the past two weeks, prices have increased by 40% for red round tomatoes and nearly 60% for pink tomatoes. The increase in prices is due to adverse weather conditions, which have led to a decrease in the quality of open field tomatoes and an increase in the supply of green unripe tomatoes. Additionally, the rise in prices may be influenced by the active demand for Uzbek tomatoes in foreign markets, with Uzbekistan exporting 3.8 thousand tons of fresh tomatoes in the second half of October 2022, nearly one and a half times more than the previous year.
