Hungary: Turkey slaughter has dropped significantly in slaughterhouses

Hungarian slaughterhouses slaughtered 105.9 million poultry in the first half of 2023, 6.5 percent more than in the same period of the previous year. (Illustration: AKI PÁIR) The live weight of slaughtered poultry was a total of 319,000 tons, and its cut weight (cleaned, broken down weight) was 240,000 tons during this period. In the poultry group, turkey slaughter fell significantly (-22.6 percent), but goose and duck slaughter increased (+17.5 and +20.9 percent) during this period, compared to the low base. 44,400 cattle were slaughtered in the first half of 2023, 8.3 percent less than in the same period of the previous year. The live weight of the slaughtered animals was 23,000 tons, and the carcass weight was 12,000 tons.
