British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering lifting taxes on olive oil imported from Turkey, as part of efforts to reduce costs for businesses and consumers following Brexit. Despite Turkey's food exports to the UK reaching $615 million in 2021, the country has a small share in the UK's total food imports. The potential abolition of duties on products not produced in the UK could increase competition, particularly with countries like Spain, Italy, and Greece. Turkey currently exports only 50 tons of olive oil to the UK, a country that consumes 82 thousand tons, but lifting these taxes could potentially allow Turkey to compete more effectively and increase its exports.
